Portugal defender secures lucrative move to Italian giants

JuventusJorge AndradeJorge Andrade has secured a move to Italian giants Juventus, after the club agreed a fee with Deportivo La Coruna for the Portuguese defender.

The 29-year-old has long been linked with a host of clubs around the continent, with La Liga sides Real Madrid and Barcelona at one stage thought to be his most likely destinations.

However, Juventus have now agreed terms over a transfer and Andrade is set to undergo a medical with the Turin club in the near future.

“Everything happened very quickly, it was love at first sight,” Andrade said of the move. “My agent had been in contact with the Juventus management, but there was nothing concrete until a few days ago.”

“I accepted after considering every possible option and listening to my manager. In any case, the word Juventus represents a guarantee.”

Although the fee has not yet been confirmed, early reports in Spain suggest that the Bianconeri will pay around 11m euros for the former Porto man, after Depor rejected a possible exchange deal, which included striker Marcelo Zalayeta.

Andrade played 165 matches for Depor in a five-year spell in Galicia, and was in superb form for the club last season after he returned from the serious knee injury that kept him out of the World Cup.

Juve have already signed fellow Portuguese international Tiago from Lyon this summer, while speculation in Italy continues to mount that Stuttgart captain Fernando Meira could be brought in to form an all-Portuguese central defence at the Delle Alpi next season.
